Maury Chaykin Dead at 61.

One of Canada's boys, and also one of Canada's leading character actors.

He started a career in the mid-Seventies and from there had consistent work in movies as well as television, won awards and quickly became one of those "Oh Yeah, THAT Guy" guys whom you recognize from everything he'd been in but just couldn't place his name.

And why not; he'd not only been in dozens upon dozens of conspicuously Canadian productions (The Kidnapping of the President, Nothing Personal, Mrs. Soffel, Def-Con 4) and some rightfully-regarded "big" pictures (Dances with Wolves, Twins, WarGames, My Cousin Vinny) but also some very recognizable B-movies, too (Meatballs III, Curtains, Of Unknown Origin, Cutthroat Island). All in all, quite a resume'.

And the best way I can think of to pay homage to the man is from his scene in WarGames - the "Mr. Potato Head" scene.

Rest in peace, Maury.

Dope out.
