Blondie! Blondie! Blondie!

Oh, and did I mention Blondie? Great band that helped form the "punk" sound in the late-'70s - early '80s. And no one has pipes like Debbie Harry.

As evidenced by songs the likes of "Heart Of Glass"...

"The Tide Is High"...

..and the ultimate in white rap: "Rapture".

And lest we forget "Call Me".

Not bad for a legend, eh?

How About Some "Downer" Trivia?

Most of you know and love the Little Roger Corman flick Little Shop Of Horrors, right?

Many of you also know of the staged musical re-imagining of same-said film, and its 1986 redux, yes?

Well, on the subject of the filmed musical, and its happy, sappy monster-dies, good-guys-live ending...

Didja know there was ANOTHER, not-so-happy ending?

(give this'n some time to load - it is SO worth it)

And then there's the 1986 kiddie cartoon series based on the musical version...but that's another blog for another time. Maybe.

Late, Late Night Posting (For Me, Anyway)...

It's late at night, you don't feel like posting, no one's actually reading your blog anyway, your eyes can barely focus on the screen...what's a blogger to do?

Take an '80s music video and call me in the morning.

Use only as directed; call your physician before embarking on this or any all-'80s music video program.

"Dune"-d To Fail...

I don't think I'm in the minority in saying that the 1984 film version of the Frank Herbert epic book "Dune" (as envisioned by David Lynch) did not come off as well as planned. Suffice it to say that it was one of the big box-office losers of 1984.

Sure, there were recut versions (one or two shown on TV) with added scenes, a slideshow drawing intro and even a re-telling per the Sci-Fi Channel, but this film is the one most will cite when they say that Frank Herbert cannot be filmed.

Convincing argument, this.

Here is the trailer to the film, anyway...

The intro by Princess Irulan (Virginia Madsen), incoherent as it may be...

And the "sandworm" scene.

Oh, and if you'd like to read about the film that this ALMOST became, please do yourself the favor of clicking HERE and reading about the involvement of a select few who came thiiiis close to making history. Go on, read it.

A Brand New Urban Legend...?

Okay, anyone who attends this blog regularly knows of both my fondness for Star Wars (demonstrated not even one posting ago...DUH) and for The Star Wars Holiday Special. But, listen to this....

Just recently I came across this video which is purportredly supposed to have been a commercial shown within the animated part of the SWHP (courtesy of Nelvana). Now, I remember watching the special a long time ago (blah blah blah) but no so this little commercial.

It's not that I deny their presentation of this video, but from the looks of it, they at least have the look of the animated segment matched with the clip - heck, even the sound matches up pretty close.

Judge for yourself.

And remember: wasting electricity turns people off.

A Special "Star Wars" film...

Most people know I am a big Star Wars fan at heart.

I saw every movie in the theater their first run, I have almost all the action figures, I have a few of the old school comics, and somewhere in my attic lies a carboard Yoda.

And needless to say I'd thought I had seen every big and small movie based on the film and characters therein.

...until NOW. Now I've seen everything.

Hey, someone should give that director a hand. (ha ha)

Feeling A Little Random Tonight...

So here's some random movie trailers.

For such deserving flicks as the 1982 Ken Wahl vehicle The Soldier...

A 1981 Alien ripoff, Alien Contamination. It's Italian; 'nuff said.

Another 1982 classic, Death Wish II...

...and 1985's Return To Oz. Okay, I guess, just don't go comparing this to the original. : P

There; that's random enough for one night.

Skill Time!

Maybe it's my own stress level, but here lately my nerves have been a wreck - with work, home, local theater, the blog, all that - maybe I'm stretching myself too thin?

Naaaah.

Anyhoo, you know how some people do puzzles and mazes to relax? Well, thanks large to the Internet, now I can reduce my stress level by just concentrating on 'Net-based games. Less paper involved, good for the environment too. ; )

Here's a couple of my favorites: this is an online search for Where's Waldo? Good luck...

So, What Movies Do I Own?

...or, at least ADMIT to owning?

Well, it may surprise some of you to know that I, personally, have quite an eclectic taste in films and own several that few people, in fact, have even heard of.

Case in point: the clips you are about to watch are scenes from movies that I own. I didn't make the clips themselves but you get the idea.

Here's a "good" one from Mars Needs Women - beats me why after this one Tommy Kirk's career didn't explode (instead of bombing).

This one is from Hudson Hawk - underrated or overblown? Your call.

Here's a full-blown (up) scene for a film I'm proud to call mine - MegaForce.

And lastly (for now) here is a nice little trailer from the non-derivative film Message From Space (in no way connected to Star Wars, believe it or not).

So, now you know my taste in films. Aren't you glad you asked? Or did you?

To be continued...maybe.

Taco's "Puttin' On The Ritz".

But look again at the title of this post...you just KNOW there's a twist, don't you?

A Search For Something Long Gone...

A friend of mine who reads my blog (one of the seven, I guess) asked me if I could post something from the mid-'80s era of PBS school-time programming called "Colorsounds", which played popular music videos of the day, done their way.

Alas, I could find nothing. Sorry.

But as a consolation prize, here's a clip from another PBS show, "Sesame Street". It's about the letter B...I think.

Again, sorry...maybe somebody else reading this can steer me (and my friend) in the right direction? Let's hear it, you other six readers.

Imitation Is The Sincerest Form Of...HEYYY!!!!

Wont as I am to surfing the Web, I just for the heck of it typed in the name of my blog on Google; you know, to narcissistically see what came up. Among the expected links to the ol' homestead here, I found something quite unexpected....

A link showing a blog that had an eerily similar entry as compared to my site. That is, the one that dealt with Jason Alexander.

Here's the link to MY ENTRY.

And here's the link to the MYSTERY BLOG.

Not that it's a big deal of anything. Heck, I'm flattered that someone else reads me. And at least he owned up to it right there on his blog in front of his homies and all. I guess it's just...well...a shock. I'm not sure how I feel about it.

Flattered, I guess.

Music, Music, Music...

The people who've read my blog (all 4 of them) often ask why I pick on the '70s music so bad (esp. disco).

Well, it's not a matter of me hating that particular decade so badly, nor is it that disco was such a hokey period for music, dance, fashion and general human mores and such...

No, it was more that in an aesthetic sense, '70s disco was just...simply put...BAD.

And now you're going to foolishly ask why I brought this up, right?

Wonder no more....

Geez, second ABBA video this week; I'm in a rut.

H.R. Pufnstuf...

Can't do a little, 'cause you can't do enough.

(yeah...try and tell me they didn't inhale on that show.)

For those who don't know, "H.R. Pufnstuf" was a hot little kids' show in the late '60s - early '70s that also benefitted in coming from the warped, twisted Technicolor minds of Sid and Marty Krofft, of which "Pufnstuf" was the jewel in their production company, with other successes to follow, but none so bright (nor psychedelic) as this'n was.

And what a show it was; just take a look at these clips:

This was the lead-in for the show...

Here's a scene with principal villain Witchie-Poo, played by the irrepressable Billie Hayes...

Here are the heroes: Jimmy (Jack Wild) and Pufnstuf himself.

And the end credits, which are a show unto themselves (WARNING: scary procuction credit to follow!).

Ahh...nostalgia. :)

Sock It To Me, Baby!

Anyone who flashes a grin upon reading that intro line no doubt remembers when saying that was still in vogue: late '60s - early '70s. I.E. - the time when "Rowan and Martin's Laugh-In" was on the air.

Ahh..."Laugh-In". Now there was a show that was funny, topical, goofy and even now fondly remembered for launching at least one man into falsetto superstardom (more on that later). But for now, alow me to show how much that show rocked with a clip or two.

Here's Goldie Hawn explaining some things...

A typical party scene with a typical '60s band (maybe you'll recognize them)...

Hey, they even did music videos before they were popular! Just watch....

And the guests! Oh, the guests! They even got a certain diva to sing for them. Try and do THAT, Ryan Seacrest!

So yes, they had all that and...remember that superstar I said this show launched? Well, here he is: ladies and gents, Tiny Tim!

Now THAT, my friends, is comedy with a capital "C"!

My First Post Of 2007!

Well, here we are in a brave new year, full of new hope and promise!

So, in which direction should this blog go now: shall I

(A) continue to post the same old stuff as usual, or

(B) expose governmental travesties of justice, speak for the little man and take a stand for what is widely known as psychological and emotional injustices of prisoners of conscience here and abroad?

...

Oh, what do YOU think?

Here, then, is a defining moment from a movie I am proud to say I own: 1976's A*P*E.

Ah, I love doin' the same old thing in a new year.
