Chevy Chase's Dirty Little (Not-So) Secret...

I'm not going to go several paragraphs and describe who Chevy Chase is; you, as a well-read 'Net-o-phile, should already know who he is. You've seen "Saturday Night Live", you've watched Fletch and those National Lampoon Vacation movies and his co-starring stint on that NBC show about a community college I can't recall the title of right now, but anyway...long story short, you know who Chevy Chase is.

And if you don't, click the Wikipedia link then come back.

You back? Good....

After he left SNL, Chevy pictured bigger and better things for him; and for a few movies he had them. But then he felt himself drawn back to NBC and, a couple of times, gave in. He even hosted his old alma mater show and, before his 1993 talk show fiasco, hosted a special called "The Chevy Chase Show" in 1977. Kind of the same stuff he did on SNL, only in an hour format and Ready for Prime Time.

Then, in 1979, people in television land saw THIS ad pop up:

So, what WAS "The Chevy Chase National Humor Test", you may ask? Good question. I remember it verrrrrry vaguely back in the day, I remember Chevy telling the home and studio audience to make paper airplanes out of the show's questionnaire from that week's TV Guide, and an extremely surreal end sequence with four images of Chevy's white grease-painted face all mugging along with a big band song. But as far as the content...I don't know.

But I'm going to.

Yes, kids; I found a copy of "The Chevy Chase National Humor Test" and I will review it before the Dope-A-Palooza is over and done with. Something this rare and unusual and downright weird must be dealt with.

Besides, this is the second time that Chevy's done a TV show with Dr. Joyce Brothers. What's NOT to review about that?

So, keep your anticipation high; Chevy Chase is about to become part of Dope-A-Palooza Month!

...and this STILL isn't the weirdest thing I'll review this month. Trust me.

Dope out.
