wow. "the room" really is the best --worst movie ever made--.
apparently it is the new rocky horror (midnight screenings in LA, people yelling things at the screen, re-enacting scenes and dressing up as characters).
oh god, do yourself a favor and please watch the trailer, and try to watch the movie. you will not regret it.
I love tommy wiseau.

The APRIL'09 soundtrack!

Martorial elegance # 17
You have a Barry's pants, m'lord. I'll wager those shin skimming hems have never had to feel the jagged hardness of an ankle bone rubbin' against 'em on the rain sodden streets of Manchester.
You know how after This Is England came out you started to see emo kids suddenly dressin' like skinheads in bomber jackets and dockers? I'm thinkin' shorty here has taken it a step further and is going for the Oxfam flid chic Shaun has at the start of the film when when he's getting excoriated by all and sundry for his kecks on his way to school and in the playground.
Kudos to Killa Barratt for the snap. Some Too $hort would be wholly appropriate right about now.

Just writing what the membrane concocts.
Not very happy. My life is not an open book, but sometimes I wish some people were curious enough to read a few of its chapters. I may say I have the greatest friends, whether old or new. But I am still lonely. Love seems so bland nowadays. People say it as if its the hottest abbrevation in AIM slang. Love isn't like "TTYL," or "IDK!" Something simple to write to abbreviate what you are trying to say. It should be said fully. And it should mean something unlike "LOL," where in reality you are not really LOL. Someone close to me said that I don't know what I want. People don't know what they want. Well, what happens when you have so much and yet you are still so unsure? What else could you need? Dr. Seuss said that you know you are in love when you would rather live in the real world rather than in your dreams. I'm still living in a dream, Dr. Seuss. When will I wake up?
I Went Out Sham-Wow Shopping Today....
Okay, this post has nothing to do with movies or entertainment, but I had to share it with you.
Well...that last sentence may not be entirely true, but it's true enough for what follows. Just go with me on this and let's continue.
Anyway, went to the local community flea market today and some guy had a booth set up selling what looked to the casual passer-by to be Sham-Wows. You know, those miracle cloth/sponge/shamois kinda things that guy with the big teeth and Jersey accent advertises on TV all hours of the day. Those things, yeah. Anyway, the ones I found were selling for $3.
Yep, three bucks.
The guy selling them was all too proud to point out that these particular Sham-Wows were actually from GERMANY, and they worked every bit as good as the ones I saw advertised. Yeah, they weren't the same but, darn it - they were German, so they had better engineering behind them.
So there.
Needless to say, I passed on the purchase.
This isn't the whole story, though. There was always something nagging me about this guy on TV that advertised the actual Sham-Wows (the ones not from Germany). His face was kinda familiar, as was that voice (not the same kind of irritating Billy Mays thing, but annoying all the same). I eventually checked on him and found his name:
That name was vaguely familiar, so I researched some more and found - to my own real horror - that this is the same Vince Offer that unleashed one of the truest horrors onto the unsuspecting public-at-large.
The Underground Comedy Movie (1999)
I knew it; Vince Offer IS The Devil. Satan. Evil incarnate, and he appears in the guise of an infomercial to deceive.
And since the link to the review I myself did of this travesty on the B-Movie Message Board is long gone, my next post will display my full-length review of what amounts, no more or less, than a paean to perverse idiocy and disgusting "komedy" ideas that produce not one laugh.
I still want to get a Sham-Wow, mind you, but as for the rest of his output, Vince can keep TUCM to himself.
Shame on you, Satan.
Till next post, Dope out.

I hate smart chicks but i love brains # 2
Much like James Stewart in Vertigo has a type, i also have a type : hoity toity brainy birds who work on fairly obscure shows on BBC digital channels.
When you're young and thinking about the qualties the chick you'd potentially want to wife up should possess it basically boils down to these two deal-breakers : will she take it up the arse every once in a while and if she won't go the route of the c-section will she still give head after she's squeezed out a few kids and turned her horizontal Rio Ferdinand's mouth regular pussy into a Sarlacc Pitt from Return Of The Jedi-ish gaping casm?
Before babies :
After babies :
But as a gangster of love matures into a gentleman of sophisticated tastes his priorities change and he just wants a potential wifey who'll be able to answer all the maths questions during pub quizzes or fix his laptop to get his computer 'puting after he's riddled it with viruses trying to download episodes of Herman's Head from some dodgy Russian tv site and who better to fullfil these tasks than Kate Russell from BBC news technology show Click?
Here at The Martorialist we've been fans of Kate since the days when she used to host Chips With Everything on the long moribund Sky channel .TV and would spend the show rolling her eyes and making sarcastic remarks at the expense of the computer specialist experts (translation : a bunch of blokes who used to review games like Treasure Island Dizzy, Rock Star Ate My Hamster etc for computer game mags during the eighties and early nineties) there to answer the questions.
Nowadays Kate has her own segment on Click, which is essential sunday morning viewing when you're feeling like death warmed up and your body is leaking ungodly smells from every orifice, where she shines light on various websites across the 'net suggested by viewers of the show, so i'm gonna email her a link to this post hoping she'll spread some love in this direction and give me a shout-out on tv. Where's the love, Kate?

Greatest movie scenes ever part 3
This week scientists suggested that eating chicken regularly may slightly decrease the chances of developing cancer, which is rather handy as about the only thing the rapidly fracturing cold dystopia that we call the internet can agree on it's that on the 8th day god created chicken.
But our fine feathered fowl friends have uses beyond fast food designed to tickle our taste-bud g-spots as Charlie Sheen's crossbow wielding character Topper Harley found out in Rambo-spoof flick Hot Shots Part Deux (a rare superior sequel a la Evil Dead 2, The Godfather Part 2 and Empire Strikes Back) when he ran out of arrows to shoot at the Iraq terrorist who emerged from the hut in the camp Topper and his motley band of freedom fighting mercenaries have ilfiltrated and had to....improvise :
(Full scene here from 6:30 onwards should you want to see Topper running out of arrows by being blighted with a bout of Robbie Keane in the 6 yard box-ish accuracy).
Bonus chicken related beats :

Friday the 13th (1980)
I was talking with a fellow movie-loving friend of mine the other day, and the subject turned to horror movies, of which her son just finished watching the first few in the Friday the 13th series.
She said that she kind-of enjoyed the first movie, seeing as how it resembled (if reversed) the dynamic in Psycho (1960).
Huh.
I knew what she meant (as would anyone who's seen both), but that got me thinking; is it possible to over-analyze a movie like Friday the 13th to the point wherein the plot means more than it actually does?
And so here we are, with me about to pick up my virtual machete and dissect a film that probably doesn't deserve the going-over it does, but thanks to my friend (hey out there, friend; I mentioned you in my review!), I feel it is necessary to do so, and perhaps find out what is in this whole Friday the 13th dynamic by examining the nucleus of the whole thing and going from there.
Let's begin.
All right, I'm not going to pull any punches here - I'm going to tell it like it is and spare no one's feelings this time around.
Ready?
The entire Friday the 13th series is based on a movie that was crap to begin with and it got no better with age.
Ouch. Yeah, I know.
Listen: I can hear the Jason fans out there, beating their hockey masks against their PC screens, shouting, "NO! Friday the 13th rocks! You're just a Freddy fan or something, man! You can't see it; Friday the 13th is a great film!!"
No, Virginia; it's not.
I was only a 14 year-old Dope when the first Friday came out and, I swear to you, even at my tender age, I knew this was a ripoff of the far-superior holiday scare-fest Halloween, just 2 years prior. You read that right - Friday the 13th came out just two (2, one + one) years after Halloween. Coincidence? Naw. Quick cash-in? Ooh yeah.
Let's face it; even writer Victor Miller admitted that this was nothing more than a cash-in. He was quick on the draw, gotta give him that, if a little slow on the wit. And yet he created a script that had little more existence than to show teenagers being killed.
That's it.
Oh sure, death of innocent youths were also the basis of many other American-made mad-killers-on-the-loose films such as Last House on the Left and The Texas Chainsaw Massacre (the original '70s versions, please) - the only difference in these two films and our subject, of course, is that the other two are regarded as artistic, detailed classics. Three words that have never been associated with any Friday the 13th movie.
But perhaps you are one of the two other people living on a deserted island that is not familiar with what these films are about. Hm? So, allow me to elaborate thusly: At Camp Crystal Lake several years ago, a mentally-handicapped youth is allowed to drown by two inattentive camp counselors. Shortly thereafter, two counselors are murdered and the camp is closed. In the present day (or at least 1980), the camp is reopened and much time is spent by the counselors to get the campsite in shape before the kids arrive. But soon someone is systematically murdering them all. Who is doing the killing? And why? And who will survive?
Simple enough, isn't it? And by the virtue of such a description you may envision an old school murder mystery in the vein of Miss Marple or Hercule Poirot...okay, that may be a stretch but you know what I'm getting at.
That isn't the case, however; due mainly to the fact that the writer and director have apparently seen many a giallo in their day....
Oh. Sorry:
Okay, so they saw many a giallo and decided, in the vein of a Dario Argento or Lucio Fulci that they could bring more intensity to their little story by ramping up the blood and guts. Which they do, thanks in large to gore makeup maestro/drug vacuum Tom Savini.
What they didn't do, however, was improve their story. Largely because the story is not aided and abetted by the acting nor by the direction.
Think about this: besides the heavy gore and violent deaths, giallos also had the virtue of being directed by some of the most talented directors that Italian film had to offer. Not only Argento and Fulci, but also such luminaries as Mario Bava, Sergio Martino, Umberto Lenzi, Andrea Bianchi, Ruggero Deodato, Aldo Lado and the like, whose legacies stand for themselves.
Friday the 13th was directed by Sean Cunningham. HIS legacy includes a sex comedy starring Harry Reems, a sex drama starring Marilyn Chambers, two kiddie sports-related films and a sex documentary that even got banned in Finland (like most Hollywood movies usually do). Not exactly a sparkling start for a movie like this, but as a wise man once said, even dwarves started small.
Cunningham was in worse trouble, though, for not watching the style and technique of his predecessors in employing interesting camera angles, entertaining color schemes or detailed setups for his actors. Even Dario Argento cared enough about his actors to make them look at least as well-blocked and centered as your average "Tales from the Crypt" comic book character.
Not Cunningham: take for example an early scene where a new counselor comes into town and walks into a local store to ask for directions. It is all done so flat and ordinary that what menace could have been established is gone. No extreme closeups, no tilted camera angles, no sense of what kind of terrors lie beneath the otherwise calm surface of the scene. When a film like this has a cameo by such a terrific face as Irwin Keyes and fails to utilize the menace he provides just by staring at someone, you know something's wrong.
And speaking of actors, the young adults herein have not a hint of irony nor awareness; they might as well have walked in from a Dr. Pepper ad. Even when the killings finally start, it's as if it just doesn't register that all the sharp implements (axes, machetes, arrows, etc.) they are surrounded with in this big, empty camp are possible weapons of their destruction. Of course, maybe that was the idea - a bunch of dumb-as-rocks kids just begging to be offed because of their own bland, vacuous stupidity...yeah, and someone with an axe, too.
No one can escape the fact that one of the big names in this movie was Kevin Bacon. Yep; Footloose. She's Having a Baby. Animal House. That guy. If this was the basis of his whole career, however, it would have ended with him getting an arrow in the neck. Sadly, Kev makes very little impression in Friday the 13th; this was just another episode of Six Degrees for him.
Truth be told, there are only two actors here that make any impression - and neither one of them play Jason. One is Walt Gorney, who plays the prerequisite Crazy Old Coot who rambles and rants and warns everyone that they're "all doomed". His eyes bulge, his voice wails and groans and he pops up where you least expect him, doom-saying and moaning about the Death Curse surrounding Camp Crystal Lake. He makes every scene memorable, that's for darned sure.
And then there’s Betsy Palmer. Bless her heart – she is a good actress and many people questioned her sanity for appearing in a movie like this’n. But if it just weren’t for that car she wanted to buy…. Anyway, she is the other reason to watch this film. I won’t say anything more about her involvement (for the two or three uninitiated ones out there), other than that she has one of the most memorable scenes in the whole thing.
I guess the real star isn’t even a person (sorry, Adrienne King) but instead the idea that Friday the 13th set into motion: modern-day horror movies don’t need a plot, acting or even inventiveness in their soul – just several young people to kill, several sharp or blunt instruments and lots of stage blood. And from the day this franchise took off and made its untold billions, I guess Cunningham and company proved their point.
And it wasn't like anyone learned any lesson from making this film on how to improve their craft. They churned out eleven (!!!!) sequels and a remake of the original for '09. I mean, doesn't Hollywood have any shame at a... oh, wait. I already know the answer. Never mind.
So, class; what did we learn by dissecting Friday the 13th?
Really, it was like biting into a Twinkie that’s been sitting on a shelf for who knows how long: it looked tempting and everything you heard about it was good but it sure didn’t turn out like you expected – in fact, it kinda turned your stomach.
And it's really not good for you, anyway.
Then, apparently, neither is summer camp.
Psycho. Huh.

Oh. Sorry:
"Giallo" films are characterized by extended murder sequences featuring excessive bloodletting, stylish camerawork and unusual musical arrangements. The literary whodunit element is retained, but combined with modern slasher horror, while being filtered through Italy's longstanding tradition of opera and staged grand guignol drama. They also generally include liberal amounts of nudity and sex.
Okay, so they saw many a giallo and decided, in the vein of a Dario Argento or Lucio Fulci that they could bring more intensity to their little story by ramping up the blood and guts. Which they do, thanks in large to gore makeup maestro/drug vacuum Tom Savini.

Surf dudes with attitude
But i ain't talkin' about them chaps from 90s Yank teen-com California Dreams.
So, as the sun begins to steadily rise out of the miasma we call British winter time it's wriiten into the rap bloggaz bible that thou must make a topical west coast post urging your readers to bump some G-Funk because it's, like, also sunny in California so they should listen to It Was A Good Day or Regulate on the bus when it's going over some speedbumps and pretend that they're hittin' switches in a six fo' cadi' driving down Crenshaw Boulevard.
The Southern Hospitality homies posted links to Mac Dre and Thizz Nation's TReal parts one & two documentaries on Google Video the other day and, naturally, i wouldn't wanna break rap-blog tradition so it's time for the token spring time Martorialist post featuring a grip of west coast jams.
Husalah - Sleep With Da Fishes
Tucked away on the rather poor 2006 Mob Trial compilation by Andre Nickatina & Mob Figaz was this gem by the hugely entertaining Husalah. I've pondered on how to describe this tune for all of 30 seconds now and the best i can come up with is that it's simply some bombastic gang$ta shit. I'd add the prerequisite FREE HUSALAH! here but A-Wax's relentless HUSALAH SNITCHED campaign is fairly damning.
Compton's Most Wanted - Duck Sick
The Hood Took Me Under is CMW's most anthemic moment but this is their most macked-out and DJ Mike T's cuttin'-up on here is vicious. Rap has gone on to more acerbic and violent heights since this was released in 1990 but "I heard you did a show for ya mom's tapedeck" remains a timeless dis guaranteed to puncture the very essence of a man's soul.
Nate Dogg - I Got Love
There was a remix of this with Fabolous, Kurupt and someone else but who really wants to hear them phoning in verses when you can listen to Nate doing his thang on his finest solo moment, from 2001? Nate himself has been rather ill during recent times so i'd usually offer up a keep your head up here but a hold your head type sentiment to a double stroke victim might be in slightly poor taste.
CPO featuring MC Ren - Ballad Of A Menace
Back in 1990 i was a huge NWA stan like every other cracker who listened to rap but i completely slept on the To Hell And Black album by MC Ren's pet-project group CPO until years later when my pal Chek put me up on it during a roadtrip. CPO were far more CMW than NWA from their more sombre tone to their love of Isaac Hayes samples to their savage scratching and this is the best track from their one and only album.
Tha Eastsidaz - Bacc On The Blocc
Snoop's long since become a parody figure but you can never quite count him out as he can still come up with the odd moment of brilliance like his his hilarious movie Boss'n Up, his tunes with The Neptunes on production duties, that Cali Iz Activ track with Tha Dogg Pound, the unfuckwithable Sexual Eruption or this synth thumper with his group of weedcarriers Tha Eastsidaz from 2006.
San Quinn featuring J.T Tha Bigga Figga - The Hustle Continues
The best tune on San Quinn's second cd from 1996. Low budget squelchy Bay Area G-Funk with San Quinn and J.T recounting how the hustle is a daily grind every man must endure should he want to live la dolce vita. Their everyday hustle is slightly more exciting than yours and mine though as it involves bouncin' in drop tops, poppin' multiple hoes and stackin' thousands.

dita von teese interview
dita is on the cover of inked this month
it's a good article, I guess, and has nice pictures (nothing new though), but! the most interesting part is when she says she dressed as a normal "LA girl" for halloween. I remember her saying in an interview before that she thought it would be a funny idea is she dressed 'normal' for halloween, but I am surprised she actually did it. anyways, after some internet sleuthing (ty ontd), here are the pics!
ps her friend did her makeup the same way he does victoria beckham's

"Love, Sex & Magic," VIDEO REVIEW.
Whoa, nelly. Cough, um, Ciara? I do still stand by what I meant, by you just being a great dancer to me and thats it. I think the song is nice, plus JT makes it fire, but, Let me give it up to you. Applause, because this video pretty much has me wanting more of your material. The GOOD material, of course, but, nonetheless, material. Like . . . you're a friggin acrobat! How do you . . . and then you . . . and lemme not forget when you . . . hot damn, C. HOT DIZZAMN! I love it.
This video just spews sexuality, sexiness, and lust. I love it mucho. Plus, Ciara looks great. I did not see one ounce of Beyonce chewing, so the bootlickers can sit their arses down. Two thumbs up! Great vid. One of the best.
