In the flowery Google Doodle designed by Takashi Murakami, the artist has portrayed the celebrations of the longest day of the year in the northern hemisphere, the summer solstice. Google commissioned the father of contemporary pop art, Takashi Murakami to create today's Google Doodle in his own innovative style.
The contribution of Takashi Murakami in a series of exciting Google Doodle is titled "The First Day of Summer". The interesting doodle has entangled flowery bursts around gaping mouthed heads characteristic of the Japanese anime style.
This morning, Google tweeted about the multi-colored cartoon creations saying, "Two super fun, superflat doodles today created by one of our favorite artists Takashi Murakami."
The term "Superflat" refers to an art movement created by Murakami that endeavored to introduce the international art scene to Japanese animators, artists, cartoonists and more. According to Kaikai Kiki, Takashi Murakami's art-production and artist Management Corporation, "Such categories of creativity are not as rigid in the Japanese system, and might all be thought of as 'art,'"
The "Super flat" style debuted in 2001 and toured museums in Europe and America with its three-part exhibition. The bright Google Doodles depict the signature cartoon drawings of Takashi Murakami.
After the doodles, one with a summer scene and another set for winter solstice, displayed on the search giant's homepage, Murakami tweeted today, "Amazing! I & kaikaikiki team are so happy this Happening! Thanks a Lot team Google!"
The summer solstice, beautifully displayed in Google Doodle, is the day in which the Earth and the Moon are most tilted towards the sun.
Takashi Murakami began his career in 1996 when he founded the Hiropon Factory in Japan. Since then his magical creations are gaining appreciation in popular art exhibitions in museums throughout the world.
With his brilliant ideas and true hard work, the often bow-tie Japanese artist became the most sought after in the world in 2003 according to Art News.
The talented Murakami is the innovator, who has blended the idea of high art and pop art in his drawings. Along with his designing contributions to Louis Vuitton's handbags, Takashi Murakami has a close collaboration with fashion designer Marc Jacobs.
Because of the popularity of Murakami's superflat-style, he was asked to design a cover artwork for rapper Kanye West's album "Graduation" in 2007. The unstoppable creativity of Takashi Murakami put him in Time magazine's 100 most influential people by the year 2008.
