In 1978, there must have been a whole lot of drugs circulating between the music and movie world's denizens. How else to better explain what I'm about to relate to you?
One day, Robert Stigwood thought it would be a good idea to make a Beatles movie. Fair enough; save for the fact that The Beatles didn't want to be involved in it. No problem there, either: Stiggy had access to their songs, so just fashion a movie around the music. What's thw worst that could happen?
Well, for one, Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Heart's Club Band went on to be the biggest flop of the year. For another, fledgling actors Peter Frampton and The Bee Gees never went on to star (or act, IIRC) in another motion picture ever again after floundering around in starring roles where they were never allowed to be heard talking (!!). And thirdly, if not for the fact that the soundtrack went on to become the biggest selling movie soundtrack of the decade, Stigwood would be selling pencils and string on street corners to this day.
Surely, most of you baby-boomers have seen and have horror stories of your own about this flick. But for those of you who don't, let's get you up to speed.
Here's the Wikipedia article on the movie - it pretty much covers it all.
Now for some visual input....
Here's the trailer for this beauty. I think I posted this before but if not, here you go!
Here's Peter Frampton "acting"/singing....
Try to listen to the song "Mean Mr. Mustard" the same way again after seeing this. Just TRY to.
Earth Wind And Fire??!! Is nothing sacred??!
And here's the only good part of the movie - Aerosmith covering "Come Together".
Now you're educated. Man, I love informing people of important stuff.
Dope out.
