I know I've harped before on the pitiful state of affairs with a once-great television giant: MTV. The "M" used to stand for "music", now it stands for "meh".
Reality shows, movie specials, interviews and, once in a while, music videos. What the...??!!
Well, just pretend you've seen the astronaut guy and the color changing MTV flag on the moon and get ready for some REAL music videos.
David Bowie had some great '80s songs - here's one of them...
Supertramp is known mostly for the '70s and "Breakfast In America". But they also released records in the early '80s. One of them was "...famous last words...", and this is one of the songs from it. Remember...?
Madonna, back when she had talent....
This was one of British rock group ABC's big hits in the States...
Then there's old standbys like Rod Stewart...
Spandau Ballet...
Musical Youth...
And, rounding it out, A Flock Of Seagulls.
And now for that special clip: Back in MTV's salad days, many of the "big" networks were trying to copy their success by having a couple of hours in the week where they'd show edgy graphics and have cool-voiced announcers introduce videos you'd probably already seen on MTV. But oh well....
One such show was NBC's Friday Night Videos. Here's their intro.
Consider yourself entertained.
Dope out.
