The Indian School of Business (ISB) is an international business school in Hyderabad, Andhra Pradesh, India. The school offers postgraduate programmes in Management (PGP), post-doctoral programmes, as well as executive education programs for business executives. Its idea was conceived in 1995 by a group of Fortune 500 entrepreneurs in collaboration with Andhra Pradesh's state government.[1] Rajat Gupta, former Managing Director ofMcKinsey & Company Worldwide and Nara Chandrababu Naidu, the then Chief Minister of Andhra Pradesh played a pivotal role in establishing the institution.
Indian School of Business's partners include Wharton School of Business, Kellogg School of Management, London Business School, The Fletcher School of Law and Diplomacy and MIT Sloan School of Management.[2] The accelerated one-year post graduate programme course is ISB's specialty. It is a member of the Global Business School Network.
The Indian School of Business is ranked 13 among the top 100 global B-schools, as per the Financial Times annual MBA 2011 rankings.[3

Q. Briefly tell us about the institute.
The Indian School of Business evolved from the need for a world class business school in Asia. Our founders- some of the best minds from the corporate and academic worlds- visualised the leadership needs of emerging Asian economies. They recognised that the rapidly changing business landscape would require young leaders with an understanding of evolving economies, but also with a global perspective. The ISB is committed to its role in creating such leaders through its innovative programmes, outstanding faculty and thought leadership. We have progressed well and we were in the list of Top 20 B-Schools in the world (as per Financial Times rankings) in 2008 and we repeated our success story by being the 15th ranked B-School in the world in 2009.
Q. What are the courses offered?
ISB offers a unique one-year full time Post Graduate Programme for candidates with work experience, a Post Doctoral Research Fellowship Programme, and short-term executive Programmes for senior executives.

Q. What kind of background and profile does your institute look for in new students?
ISB aims at admitting an extremely talented and diverse student body. We look to having students who have worked in different countries and across industries. They need to be strong academically as the programme is very rigorous. They also need to have potential for leadership. We consider all achievements from school level to the present, including all extra currcicular achievements while taking our decision

Q. Tell us about the admission process at ISB:
For the Indian School of Business, each and every applicant is unique and the school evaluates each student across multiple parameters for admissions. Some of the parameters of evaluation are, Analytical Ability, Leadership potential, Communication and Logical thinking. Leadership Potential is a key assessment parameter. Applicants who have consistently demonstrated an ability to take up initiatives in their work or academic life are encouraged to apply. Leadership is also assessed through recommendations or references included in the application. Students must include recent recommendations from their current workplace, preferably from their direct supervisor. While most applicants may not have had a chance to demonstrate leadership skills at the public level, initiatives at work or in their personal life will help the Admissions Committee assess the applicant’s potential.
Diversity: The ISB welcomes diversity in all forms like work experience, educational background, nationality among others. But above all, the ISB values the quality of the work experience gained by individuals and not just the number of years they have been working in a certain sector. Applicants are encouraged to describe their backgrounds and provide details on how they can contribute to the classroom experience.
Academic Background and Analytical Ability : The programme is rigorous, and since its one year duration makes it even more challenging. Therefore the evaluation keenly considers the student’s academic performance. However there is no cut-off score. Likewise, the ISB also assesses analytical ability based on GMAT. Here again, there is no cut-off GMAT score. While a good GMAT score helps, an average score can be compensated for by achievements in other areas.
Work Experience: The ISB prefers applicants with full time work experience (preferably of two years). The diverse professional experience of students contributes to the rich and stimulating learning in the ISB programme. We are specifically interested in how they have contributed to their organisation or added value to their professional roles. Successful applicants must demonstrate managerial and leadership potential, maturity, drive and focus.
Admissions will evaluate all applications on the above basis. Shortlisted candidates will be interviewed as part of the selection process

Q. What is the application process?
The application process at the ISB is completely online. Students can upload their resume’s, GMAT scores, send in their essays and their letter of recommendation from supervisors through this process. At any time they can approach the admissions office at the ISB and ask for help. The Admissions Office will then check the application to ensure it is complete and inform the applicant accordingly. They are updated on the status of the application through the online application itself. Once the application process is complete, short listed students are called for a personal interview.

Q. Tell us about your faculty.
The faculty at the Indian School of Business includes eminent management intellectuals with research and teaching experience from the best B-schools in the world. The distinctive research of our faculty members ensures that our programmes offer content that is contemporary and global in its perspective. Over 105 visiting faculty from the best B-schools in USA, Europe, Australia, and various Asian countries complement the expertise of our resident faculty. As prize-winning academicians, authors, and entrepreneurs, they represent a highly valued asset to the School. With the School gaining international recognition, many research scholars from around the world visit the ISB on long-term sabbaticals. Students have the opportunity to gain from an exchange of ideas with them and with Academic Fellows.
In addition, under the Professors of Management Practice, we get corporate leaders and acclaimed academicians to share their experiences with the students.

 Q. What is the fee structure at ISB?
The ISB provides a world-class management education and experience comparable to that offered at its global partner schools. The added advantage is a tuition fee that is approximately less than half the average cost of a typical top 10 B-School. Fee is around 40,000 US$. This includes tution fee and living.

Q. Does your institute offer scholarships or loans?
Each year the ISB awards several scholarships, in the form of fee remission, to outstanding candidates. These scholarships vary in amounts and include some full scholarships. Scholarships are both need and merit based. Recipients are selected on the basis of exceptional academic and professional performance, as well as personal qualities such as leadership, integrity, and community service.
The ISB also partners with several corporates to provide scholarships during the course of the academic year. The ISB has inked loan agreements with leading banks/institutions like State Bank of India, HDFC Bank, Andhra Bank, Union Bank of India that provide funding to cover up to 95% of the programme cost.
