A Semper Fi Shoutout...OORAH!

Hey kids. TheGreatWhiteDope here.

Many of you are sitting at home (or in your man-cave) reading this blog and wondering where it is exactly I, myself, find my own entertainment in the world of movies: good, bad and ugly.

Welp, those links on the side of where you're reading are a good starting point of delving into the world of B-moviedom, wherein they all talk about what movies are, what it means to love movies, despise them, even - we never know the deep love we can have for a good movie without having to sear our souls with the really sucky ones. And for all of you webmasters who own said sites, thank you.

There is one, however, I'm going to single out today because, let's face facts, this guy knows what he's talking about and has seen some films that would (to quote Pinhead from the Hellraiser films) tear your soul apart.

Trust me - he's seen Sextette.

I speak of Andrew Borntreger, the webmaster and Marine Corps Staff Sergeant who maintains Badmovies.org, a website that proudly announces itself as a shrine to "the detriment of good film". And with titles the likes of Death Ship, Frankenhooker and Sorority House Vampires From Hell, we're not exactly in Merchant/Ivory territory here.

Sergeant Borntreger (or Andrew, if I may be so bold) certainly knows what it takes to make a movie bad - but there's every difference in the world between "good" bad and "bad" bad. You see, it's all a matter of talent, style and how much they ratchet up the obnoxiousness on these films. Meaning? Some people will enjoy a film as endearingly bad as Plan 9 from Outer Space but those same people will be rightfully repulsed by dreck like the legendarily bad Robo C.H.I.C. It's all in the approach, and Andrew understands that - he's certainly sat through enough flicks, as you can plainly see.

For those of you daintily dipping your big toe into the dark, foreboding ocean of bad movies and struggling valiantly as to what others see in them, then Badmovies.org is certainly an excellent place to start your research. Read Andrew's reviews, check out the reader reviews, get into the forums, join in the conversations and, by all means, check out just how to pick out a bad film with this handy how-to guide.

And after all that, please make sure to write the nice Staff Sergeant and tell him how much you appreciate all the time and effort he's gone to just to enrich your movie-going life. After all, he's been at this since 1998 - we all need a pat on the back and a nice "good job" note every so often.

And thank you, Adrew Borntreger - not just for helping make America a safer place but for making bad movies a little more enjoyable.

(salutes)

Dope out. OORAH!!

-TGWD
