jailbreak ipad2 4.3.3

iPad 2 Jailbreak for iOS 4.3.3 Leaked

iPad 2 Jailbreak

The long awaited iPad 2 jailbreak is finally here, albeit unofficially, due to a leaked beta version of comex’s JailbreakMe 3.0 utility. Like the original version of JailbreakMe, the jailbreak exploits a bug in how Mobile Safari handles PDF’s, so the process of installing the jailbreak is surprisingly easy and just a matter of opening a PDF from the Safari browser on your iPad 2.

Jailbreaking iPad 2 with iOS 4.3 and iOS 4.3.3

Warning: this is an unofficial and unapproved leak of comex’s jailbreak that has been months in development, the jailbreak may or may not work as intended. If you are at all concerned or hesitant, you should wait for the official and trusted comex release of JailbreakMe 3.0 which will appear in the near future. Proceed at your own risk, and as always, be sure to backup your iPad 2.

The following works with iPad 2 running iOS 4.3.0 and iOS 4.3.3, click on the URL’s according to which version you are using. The jailbreak is untethered. These instructions are based on the video embedded below:

  • Open Mobile Safari on your iPad 2 and visit this URL from 4.3.0 or this PDF from 4.3.3 (8J2) or (8J3) (links pulled)
  • Safari will close itself, and a Cydia icon will appear on your iPad homescreen with a download progress bar like any other app being installed
  • The Cydia icon then disappears when it is finished downloading, at this point reboot your iPad 2
  • Rebooting will take longer than usual, but the iPad 2 will boot jailbroken with Cydia installed

This is the original video demonstrating from the leaker showing the jailbreak process from start to finish.

Remember this is an unofficially released jailbreak. The premature leak of this has proven to be very controversial in the jailbreak community because a trusted beta tester leaked the software to gain publicity before it was intended for public consumption. The leaked version has not been verified by DevTeam to be safe, and it is strongly recommended to wait until an official trusted release is available.

Thanks to Erol for the tip and links

Update: To further clarify on some of the controversy here, PDF based jailbreaks are based on security flaws in mobile Safari. By leaking the jailbreak early, the hole in Mobile Safari will be quickly patched and render the jailbreak and months of hard work useless.

Update 2: Links are rapidly disappearing for the various PDF’s, 4.3 is still working but 4.3.3 disappeared. If you missed out, it’s a good excuse to wait for the official JailbreakMe release.

Update 3: All trustworthy links to the jailbreak PDF’s are gone. We will update when the official JBM 3.0 release is available from comex.
