It's here! It's finally here!!
All Hallow's Eve! Night of ghouls and goblins and witches! Candy Night Supreme! Halloween, baby! Whoo!!
And as I promised, I have documented every day till now with at least one halloween-based (or at least creepy or scary) video, picture or such. Didn't think I could do it, didya?
(actually, neither did I.)
But now, here is the grand finale; the culmination of our frightful advent, our creepy countdown, our macabre month....
Ladies and germs, boils and ghouls, may I present to you a video that, while creepy and frightful, is also the basis of many an urban legend, story and such. But in all actuality, it's just a music video for Aphex Twin.
Oh well, "enjoy" Rubber Johnny.
Gee, after all of this, November's gonna be something of a letdown, huh?
Oh well, Happy Halloween, all.

1 Day Till Halloween...
This is it; last day till the big 3-1!
Whoo! Ghouls! Candy! Goblins! Chocolate! Costumes! Treats!
And I step one step closer to the end of our eerie advent calendar posting with the following addition: MORE scary TV production logos! (Man, these things just don;t know a season, do they?)
Make sure and tturn up the volume and turn out the lights. It helps with the...mood.
First we have the classic Rankin-Bass logo, like at the end of "Frosty The Snowman". It's nto so much the logo but the MUSIC that accompanies it. Brrrr....
Next is the old Sid and Marty Krofft logo. This is the old-school one with the digital, gurgling, creeped-out music.
This Desilu logo is one like what appeared at the end of shows like "Star Trek" (the original one). It freaked me out royally, especially when "Trek"'s end credits froze with that huge freaky bluish-green alien head glaring out at you with those unholy, unblinking eyes that stared deep into your soul and froze you solid from the core...Huh? Oh sorry; the logo:
I don't know what it is about this particular MCA-TV logo that creeps me out. It just does.
And to wrap it up, here's a compliation of those creepy Viacom logos.
Now, what could possibly be scarier than all of that? Tune in tomorrow...if you dare!

2 Days Till Halloween...
Well, it's not too long now, so I thought I'd give you a treat by presenting a TV show clip that was in turns monstrous, chiiling and horrifying.
So imagine my delight and surprise when I found a clip that was all three in one, and with the perfect host:
Count Floyd.
Ooh mama - get them Snickers bars ready!

3 Days Till Halloween...
Ever closer...ever so much closer...
Let's kick it old school today, shall we? Some old stuff, which has a scary charm all its own.
A trailer for The Terror, featuring Boris Karloff and Jack Nicholson's first major role in a movie...
Gamera Vs. Zigra...
Plan 9 From Outer Space (whee!)...
The Curse of Frankenstein...
...and, to wrap it up, the original 13 Ghosts.
Now that was scary AND educational. Well, maybe just educational but still....
Ah, to heck with it. Dope out.

4 Days Till Halloween...
This one, this next post...it's just too horrifying.
I'm not kidding one little bit, either.
This one WILL, I guarantee, give you nightmare after nightmare. I've seen it and it still does it for me.
And it isn't even a movie - not even a small clip.
It's a picture.
Just one picture. But it's enough to do it. Trust me.
And I'm too much of a chicken to even post the picture here, that's how terrifying it is.
Again, I'm not kidding one little bit about it. And since you, no doubt, think I am kidding, go ahead and check the link below and see for yourself. You sad, sick little puppy, you.

5 Days Till Halloween...
Closer and closer still, the days dwindle down to a precious few. Ah, precious Candy Day.
In today's installment of the ol' countdown, I thought we'd go a little old school and visit with my main man - the tower of power, too sweet to be sour...
MISTAH BELA LUGOSI, ladies and germs!
Of course, we remember him as Dracula...
But then there was his heroic turn in Glen or Glenda...
Next is his, what I think, touching performance from Bride of the Monster...
And a little trailer featuring Bela and a monkey...er, gorilla....
Okay, so this installment wasn't all that scary...or even creepy...but hey; I liked it.

7 Days Till Halloween...
Anyone out there ever hear of the movie Eraserhead?
An interesting little flick this is; being directed by David Lynch as it is, it already has uniqueness on its side, but there are various interesting bits o'trivia behind this classic piece of art/horror/unclassifiable dream-like sequences.
Just see for yourself - and make sure to have all the lights out in the room ahead of time...adds to the atmosphere.
Here's the dinner scene. Mmm, chicken....
And here's an interesting scene with The Lady In The Radiator. Yep, that's what she's called.
And I'm sure if you watch around, you're bound to catch it on TV too; especially around this time of year.
Maybe not all that scary, but...freaky, maybe?

12 Days Till Halloween...
You know, even with Halloween coming as it is, that's no excuse for us to be lax in our knowledge of and resistance to any and all mind-altering drugs. You know, how to avoid them, keep them out of the reach of small impressionable children and the like....
So, in the interest of the children, here is a public service announcement.

13 Days Till Halloween...
Nowadays it takes a lot to scare people. You know it's true; what scared your great-grandpa would seem weak to your grandpa, which would seem lame to your dad and would be totally stupid to you.
Is it a matter of civilization getting more and more jaded with each passing generation? Or does it have more to do with our general concept of "getting scared" - is it outward stimuli (scary images, loud noises, the dark, etc.) or more our inner psyche and what you, personally, feel when seeing these images and how they are interpreted by the individual?
Meh, who cares? Here's the dinner scene from Beetlejuice.
Geez, still 13 days to go...is this a slow month or something?

I hear the Saw movies are scary.
I saw most of the first one; it was good (i.e.: scary).
I haven't seen the second one yet but I hear it's also scary.
I have seen the trailer for Saw III. The trailer looks scary.
I don't know about how good it will be yet. It isn't out yet, y'know. When I see it, it'll probably be as scary as the first two.
At least from what I hear, it should be.
Here, make up your own mind:

16 Days Till Halloween...
A little bit of parental guidance is in order here....
One of my favorite latter-day fright flicks is John Carpenter's 1982 remake of The Thing, which, aside from being incredibly gory, is chock-full of astounding shock scenes. I love it - even as I'm being grossed out by it.
Here, then, are a couple of classic scenes in one from the above-mentioned flick. Be warned: there is liberal swearing in what you're about to see.
(Isn't that amazing? Nowadays you have to warn people about bad language and the like while you can turn on the evening news and watch people get blown away left and right...heck, even prime-time TV has liberal scenes of death, violence, drug use and the like....)
Okay, enough moral-posturing. Here's the clip.
See there? I warned you - bad language.

Real quick here, this is in honor of horror movie maestro Dario Argento, who is, in and of himself, a master of the art.

I used to love her show "Movie Macabre", a syndicated version of the old-time movie host shows made popular by "Mystery Science Theater 3000". I'm glad to see they had the sense to start releasing episodes on DVD now (right here, in fact). And so, in honor of her gigantic...cult status, here are a couple'a clips.
(NOTE - turn up your volume on these, they're not the most audible out there.)
One with her talking to her biggest fan (AKA - Breather)...

Remember that great movie from '87 called Monster Squad? Of course you do; everybody remembers that one. A modern-day classic, and a fun movie overall.
But there's this one scene, as there is in all movies of this type, that everyone remembers, talks about, looks back on with fondness and talks about with a hint of nostalgia and a tear in their eye.

Well, maybe it is, but there is more Halloween to this clip than there is not Halloween but there's still something about it that is more one holiday than another.
