Okay, I feel much better now.

Long over the fact that I'm STILL not a LAMMY nominee, I have taken a figurative deep breath and eased on down the road, ready to take the yoke of my blog back upon myself and act as if it all never happened.

Remember the good old days, when nothing was going right, I would post a disco video - not only because I hated disco music, but also because if I couldn't be happy, why should anyone else enjoy the day?

Ahhh, memories.

I like to think nowadays, so many more reviews and posts down the road, that I have mautred as a writer and a person, so as not to let the little things bother me.  That way, I can focus on the important things such as content and consistency in...

The people who've read my blog (all 4 of them) often ask why I pick on the '70s music so bad (esp. disco).

Well, it's not a matter of me hating that particular decade so badly, nor is it that disco was such a hokey period for music, dance, fashion and general human mores and such...

No, it was more that in an aesthetic sense, '70s disco was just...simply put...BAD.

And now you're going to foolishly ask why I brought this up, right?

Wonder no more....

Good News, Bad News...

The good news is that I still have a blog and plan to continue adding to it for a long time to come.

The bad news, however, is the fact that tomorrow is Monday and I have to go back to work. It bums me out, man....

Therefore, I feel lousy. And further therefore, I must make others suffer.

It's A '70s Song, But At Least It Ain't Disco...

Neither fish nor fowl, this one. It's from the '70s, yes, but it doesn't have that chintzy disco feel to it.

In sort, this song rocks.

A word about the artist here, one Bob Welch: he was a member of Fleetwood Mac in their formative years then he had some solo songs in the late '70s that were okay, I guess ("Hot Love, Cold World", "Sentimental Lady", "Precious Love"), but then he kind of trailed off after the '80s and stayed mostly behind the scenes.

There was this one song, though, that I thought was completely and totally awesome. It was the only song of his that I can clearly recall with any clarity listening to in seventh grade (whoops, gave away my age, there...) and enjoying. Again, because it rocked.

And if you grew up during the '70s and listened to the radio at all, you'll remember this song, too.

An Extra-Special Serving Of Disco...

Yes, I'm tired and cranky and yes, you're getting disco for expecting me to keep you entertained, but this posting is something extra-special.

You see, this artist is one of those one-hit wonders from the '70s. Her name is Samantha Sang and the song is "Emotion". It was produced by Barry Gibb (hence the Bee Gee-sounding vibe) and was probably the only thing she is remembered for today.

But why is it so special to me (and hence, to you)? Because they had to go and make a video to go with the song. Remember, this was back before music videos had to have a message - they just needed a face.

...but THIS face??!

Disco Fever Lives Forever!

Well, maybe not, but for awhile it was the dominant dance music for a generation...then they wised up and went back to rock and roll.

I wa but a young lad when this craze was in full swing. The '70s; you know, the polyester-clad dudes and poofy-haired girls in sequins and rhinestones, all dancing the night away and trying to act cool and live up to the standard that John Travolta had set in Saturday Night Fever. But the thing is that disco was all through the '70s, not just '78, when Fever came out.

Be that as it may, there were some...let's just say...interesting music that came out in this era.

Oh sure, there were old standbys like ABBA...



The Bee Gees, 'natch...



Oh yeah, The Village People were in their glory, too. And don't blame me for the subtext, here....



Then there were also-rans like John Paul Young...



Gloria Gaynor (leading to the inevitable joke, "whatever happened to her??")...



And then, of course, came the one that should have weathered the storm, and still been playing to sold-out crowds this very day, maiking millions of dollars and sweeping every Grammy nomination ever awarded: The Seebach Band.



So yeah, disco still lives...even if it is on life support now.
