hitchcock was a perv (join the club)

oh, you didn't know hitchcock was a perv?

there's a new hitchcock biography out called “Spellbound by Beauty” by Donald Spoto and it "surveys Alfred Hitchcock’s fraught relations with those ice-blond leading ladies he favored" (thank you ny times book review)

there is one especially weird thing w/ tippi hedren from the birds, where it says:

about Hitchcock’s attempt to force her into making herself sexually available to him, threatening to ruin her career if she would not oblige. (She didn’t.)

I mean, we all knew hitchcock was a freak! but a perv on top of that? hayyyyy

o hai there S&M hitchcock

it's called a macguffin!

I forget who I was talking to about this the other day, but we were talking about a plot device in movies (or tv shows or any story) where the whole storyline revolves around this one object -- but the actual object is not significant to the story (like the briefcase in pulp fiction).

a couple days later I was reading wikipedia about peter lorre (whom I adore) and then I read the wikipedia for the maltese falcon (b/c I had forgotten how it ends) and lookey tharr, it says the maltese falcon is a macguffin, or a "plot device that motivates the characters or advances the story, but the details of which are of little or no importance otherwise" !!

and of course, like all things that are sweet, hitchcock popularized both the term and the technique. below are some examples of a macguffin

maltese falcon in the maltese falcon (duh)

briefcase in pulp fiction

allspark in transformers

anything in an indiana jones movie!
any more that you can think of??

transatlantic accents

It's funny that unicorn jones posted about classic cinema because i've been watching Hitchcock films (the 39 steps and the lady vanishes last night)when mr. fantasy is at work since my computer is broken. Now I am becoming a little bit obsessed with transatlantic accents. I want to have a transatlantic accent more than anything and i think i'm a perfect candidate because i am an american living in london!

I've never met a real life person who talks like that but i think they exist. I imagine that dita von teese speaks with a transatlantic accent. I don't think she really does, but she should.

I'm afraid i'll end up just sounding like a douche who is trying to put on an english accent though.

did you know alfred hitchcock had a phobia of eggs?

"I’m frightened of eggs, worse than frightened, they revolt me. That white round thing without any holes … have you ever seen anything more revolting than an egg yolk breaking and spilling its yellow liquid? Blood is jolly, red. But egg yolk is yellow, revolting. I’ve never tasted it"
