Toto Coelo!

You know, for all the carp I gave these five ladies in my review for Grizzly II, I had no idea that they were so popular.

In Europe, at least.

Their name being "by the whole extent of the heavens" in Latin, Toto Coelo were created in the early Eighties by British singer/writer/producer Barry Blue.  They consisted of  Anita Mahadervan, Lacey Bond, Lindsey Danvers, Ros Holness and Sheen Doran.

Is it me or does this album cover clip I've supplied remind anybody else of The Go-Go's?  Just me?  Thought I'd better ask....

Then in 1982 came the group's biggest hit and probably the song they are best remembered for: "I Eat Cannibals".

Unfortunately, this would be the pinnacle of fame for the girls, looking at follow-ups such as "Mucho Macho"...

...an admittedly catchy tune called "Dracula's Tango"...

And a song that will probably be more familiar to those who have actually watched Grizzly II, "Milk From The Coconut".

Then things happened as they usually do with any group like Toto Coelo; members left, the remainder tried to sally forth (none of them being named "Sally", unfortunately) and they ended up kind of falling by the wayside, watching the Spice Girls pick up their baton and run with it.

I guess I don't really have anything ironic or clever to say about the quick rise and fall of Toto Coelo...I just thought this was something that you, as a reader of this blog, should know about.

You're welcome.

And Now, An Eighties Observation...

Hi, TheGreatWhiteDope here.

You know, I was just thinking that Martin Briley should have become a much larger music star than what he did.

Why do I say that?

No reason.

Okay, I'm back...

...again, yes.

...

...yeah, I know I've been gone awhile....

...

...WHAT, like you've been hanging around waiting for me to post something on this stupid blog or...

...

You have??

...

...oh.

...

(long, awkward silence)

...Uhhh...listen, I know this has been tough on both of us and I don't mean to be ungrateful and ignore you for so long but...geez, there's no real easy way to say this, but...I'm sorry, okay? And I'll do my best to be more aware of your needs from now on. I promise. Okay?

...

Okay?? Come on, I apologized!!

...

Are we cool? Are we?

(deep, relieved sigh)

GOOD!

Now, I've had a very busy few months since my last post, first and foremost among those moments being when I got a new computer - faster processor and more GB and all, perfect for making more little movies (so yes, Second Street Productions will be up and running in awhile!) and also I got a whole load of new movies - meaning, yes: I will be updating my wants and highlighting ones that I now have. Yay! And yes, I'll be writing more reviews, posting more vids and so on, so it's not like I'll be ignoring the reasons you come and see me.

Now, just for old times sake, have a music video.

And I'll see ya around!

Dope out.

...ahh, it feels good to type that again.

Miss Me?

Well! That was a nice vacation...man, did I ever need that.... Soooo... what'd I miss?

Oh yeah - nothing: I'm the boss here.

Anyway....

From everything that I could tell, those six (or eight, maybe) viewers of my blog out there have spoken to me, telling me to not be so adamant about posting every single freakin' day - thereby avoiding any further burnout. Makes sense.

So, just so I can convince you out there that I still love and respect you and am no longer going off on you (in the near future, anyway), I shall post only when I have something important to say or share.

That work for you? Good.

Anyway, most of the frustrating things in my life are over, so my nerves aren't as bad as they were, and I have found out who my real friends are. Very important, that.

Be warned, though, that I'll probably be using this as a soapbox to rail against various people, places or things every great once in a while. And no, I'm not going to turn into a loud-mouth jerk who hates everybody, I'm just one of those annoying types that just want fair treatment from other people; so if you're one of those people who refuse same - look out. (evil laughter)

Okay, that was the "RANT" part of my blog. Now, how about some entertainment for the first time in a couple of weeks?

Let us celebrate my return to the blog world with an '80s song I haven't heard in a long time. Once you hear it, you'll remember, too.

Ahh, it's good to be back.

Rockin' Good News...

Well, this made my day: it appears that David Lee Roth will be reuniting with most of his ex-Van Halen bandmates for a tour this summer. Ought to be one of the bright spots on the music tour circuit this year.

Now, for those of you who are only familiar with Van Hagar or that other guy who sang for them whose name I can't remember and don't care to look up, behold the beauty and glory and hard rocking majesty that was (is and always will be) Van Halen:

You can't go wrong with songs like "You Really Got Me"...

"Running With The Devil"...

"Unchained"...

"Pretty Woman" - (from their "Diver Down" album - a fave of mine)...

And from one of their best albums ("1984"), "House Of Pain" (HA! Thought it was gonna be "Jump", didn't ya?)

Well, let us wait patiently for this summer, shall we?

Late, Late Night Posting (For Me, Anyway)...

It's late at night, you don't feel like posting, no one's actually reading your blog anyway, your eyes can barely focus on the screen...what's a blogger to do?

Take an '80s music video and call me in the morning.

Use only as directed; call your physician before embarking on this or any all-'80s music video program.

Repeating Myself...AGAIN.

Okay, I have a New Year's resolution.

Ready?

(and no, it's not the same one as last post.)

I'll try and not repeat viodeos in postings like I'd noticed myself doing in the last few months of last year.

And I'll also awtch my sepeling. (DAMN)

Oh well, I'll try and follow through on at least one of those.

In the meantime, watch an Art Of Noise video.

My luck, I'll probably post this again next week. :(

'80s Video - Times Two!

Well, no word on that request from yesterday's post (the "Colorsounds" PBS show), but that friend of mine who requested it had another request also - a video from that show...

Taco's "Puttin' On The Ritz".

But look again at the title of this post...you just KNOW there's a twist, don't you?

So okay, here's the video we all know and love...

But, (and herein is the twist) did you know that the original video had guys in blackface? Now you know.

Hey, you just got two videos of one song in one post - tell me that isn't worth clicking.

Again With The Political Correctness...

Okay, first of all, I don't want anyone out there to think that I am furthering antagonism towards foreign countries.

Neither do I want you faithful readers out there to get the idea that I am anti-Mexican.

Nor do I promote the idea of entering the country by illegal means.

And along with all that, I harbor no beliefs that people in Mexico sing with British accents.

All that I am saying is that I like Genesis...and that I wanted to watch their video for "Illegal Alien".

That's all I'm saying.

Well, that and...Dope out.

Once More Into The '80s, Dear Friends....

After a whole month of neglect, I feel it is time to get back in the swing of things and voice my joy and happiness in admiring the music and singers of the '80s.

But just a certain part of the '80s, mind you. The first half of the '80s had some of the greatest music ever and was creative, snazzy, snappy, had a good beat and you could dance to it.

Take for example the music stylings of Falco; if not for him, we would not have a hit song embracing the life and creativity of fellow music aficionado Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart.

My only complaint with this song (and the movie Amadeus, for that matter) is: what's the deal with just referring to him by his middle name? His first name or last even (which is what most people know him by, anyway) would make more sense. But just "Amadeus"? Hmpf. I dunno....

What? Oh yeah - the video.

Enjoy.

Back To The Old Grind....

Well, no more Halloween themes for awhile (at least till a year or so from now), so we can get back to the real reason I have this blog....

Ranting about stuff I like.

So here we have a GREAT music video from the '80s by Boz Scaggs. But it's not "Lido".

Ahhh...great music. Love that stuff.

All Hail The '80s! And Its Music!

Huey Lewis And The News may not be the greatest and/or most important rock band that came out of this era, but it's damn close.

Behold!

Let 'em grow older; they still sound great!
