world netball championships 2011 league

HERTS Mavericks duo Karen Atkinson and Louisa Brownfield played their parts as England demolished Northern Ireland 87-16 in the World Netball Championships 2011 quarter-final this morning (Friday).

After that success in Singapore, England will now face world number ones New Zealand in tomorrow’s (Saturday’s) semi-final.

England co-captain Atkinson, who plays for the Hatfield-based Mavericks, is taking part in her fourth World Championships.

Looking ahead to the semi-final, the experienced ace said: “It’s going to be massive, they [New Zealand] have got loads of spectators here, and it’s almost going to be like a home venue for them with so many having come.

“It’s going to be really exciting and everybody believes in the plan that we can do it, but we know they are favourites and unless we bring anything bar our A game they will take it, so that’s what we are looking for.”

The second semi-final, also on Saturday, will see Australia take on the winner of the Jamaica versus Trinidad & Tobago clash for a place in Sunday’s final. Read More
