Three team members of the French women’s World Cup has posed naked for photographs in the German newspaper Bild draw attention to their sport.

Gaétan Thiney, Elodie Thomis and Corine Franco posed for photos under the motto: “Is this how we must appear before you come to our games?” They say they have decided – after some German players appearances in Playboy last month – to educate women about the game.

“The pictures have come out really nice and I really like them,” Thiney, who scored twice in the 4-0 win over Canada, told Bild. “We wanted to provoke and to generate some discussion.”

But she added that French players are now required to protect their off-the-pitch antics with success on the field as they prepare themselves champions Germany on Tuesday.
